Accommodation in Donetsk

Ukraine Travel: Hotels in Donetsk

Flights to the Ukraine

Accommodation in Donetsk

A hostel in the Petrowskiy district, or on the idyllic lake in the Krasnyi Lyman area? Where will you reside in the Ukraine?

If you read my article about going to the Ukraine for England's third and final group match against the Ukraine on 19th June, you will have worked out that you will only need five nights accommodation as you will be leaving Donetsk for your flight back to Heathrow late on the Friday evening (22nd).

Alas, where will you stay? Are all the hotels expensive? You thought the flights would be extortionate but they weren't. What about the hotels? If, like me, you're not too fussy about staying in an upmarket hotel and a youth hostel will more than suffice (which incidentally are often cleaner and more hospitable and friendly than some hotels) then you can do it 'as cheap as chips'.

The Student Hostel of Mining Lyceum in the Petrowskiy district lies in a peaceful green area about 25 km from the Donbass Arena in Donetsk. However, a bus stop 300m from the hostel will take you nearby. If three of you share a room you'll be looking at less than £13 each per night and just under £14 each if you're in a couple (prices from 17th - 22nd June 2012). That's less than £70 each for the hotel and £220 for your flights - under £300 each for your week at Euro 2012.

Moving a little bit closer to the football stadium (around 17km), 15km from the city centre and 20km from the airport, there is the Student Hostel of Building Technologies. A triple room in this establishment will cost you £37 per night - that's just over £12 each for the room only. However, you might want to note that there aren't any bus stops nearby so it would be taxis everywhere... unless you hire a car (parking facilities are on site).

Getting even closer to the stadium and city centre, the Student Hostel of Musical College offers its rooms at a very reasonable £24 per person per night. It lies in the pleasant Kievskiy district, which is 4km from the stadium and 5km from the city centre, airport and bus station. The train station is also a mere 6km away so makes travelling around extremely easy.

A little bit more expensive is the Recreational Center Semashko which offers a triple en suite room for just over £75 per night so just over £25 per person. This hotel is located in the city centre which is 7km away from the football stadium. Staying here would also ensure your week away costs less than £350 each including flights..excluding your spending money, of course.

A much more expensive, perhaps impractical for football fans (as it is over 100 miles from the stadium), yet decidedly lovely looking establishment in the Ukraine is The Hotel and Restaurant Complex Riviera which is in the Krasnyi Lyman area of Donetsk.

This hotel lies on a lake in an ecologically clear forest zone. It also boasts a sauna and - are you ready for this - a football pitch! The hotel also has snooker and pool facilities for billiards-enthusiasts and a restaurant for foodies! The setting of this hotel is idyllic and would make an ideal holiday abode. A quadruple room here costs just under £40 per person per night - £200 for five nights, so again the cost of the whole holiday is reasonable at £420 each. Do bear in mind the distance from the stadium though: The Ukraine is a big place.
