World Cup 2014 Qualifying Draw & Groups: Asia
Asia will have 4.5 places slots for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The 16 lowest ranked Participating Member Associations (PMAs) based on the 2010 FIFA World Cup Preliminary Competition and Final Competition results) participated in Round One.
The 16 teams were paired into 8 home-and-away legs played from 29 June - 3 July 2011. The 8 winners of each leg advanced to Round Two.
The 8 Round One leg winners joined the 22 next, highest-ranked PMAs based on the 2010 FIFA World Cup Preliminary Competition and Final Competition results in Round Two. The 30 teams were paired into 15 home-and-away legs with matches played from 23 - 28 July 2011. The 15 winners of each leg advanced to Round Three.
In Round Three, the 15 Round Two series winners join the remaining 5 PMAs that received a bye in Round Two. The 20 teams are drawn into 5 round-robin, home-and-away groups of 4 teams each. Matches are scheduled to take place from 2 September 2011 - 29 February 2012. The 5 group winners and 5 group runners-up advance to Round Four.
The 5 Round Three group winners and the 5 group runners-up will compete in Round Four. The 10 teams will be drawn into 2 round-robin, home-and-away groups of 5 teams each. The matches are scheduled from 3 June 2012 - 18 June 2013. The third-placed teams of each group advance to Round Five.
The 2 group winners and 2 group runners-up qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Round Five Asian Zone Play Off
The 2 third-placed teams from the two Round Four groups will compete in Round Five. The teams will play home-and-away play-off legs provisionally scheduled for 6 - 10 September 2013.
The Round Five winner advances to the Inter-continental play-off matches.
