Asian Cup 2011 Groups

Asian Cup 2011 Groups

The sixteen competing teams are divided into four groups of four teams.

The top two teams from each group progress to the quarterfinals.

The hosts Qatar should progress from Group A though it is difficult to forecast the second team to advance from the group from local rivals Kuwait, an underperforming China, and unpredictable Uzbekistan team.

In Group B Saudi Arabia and Japan will be very strong favorites to reach the quarterfinals.

South Korea and Australia look the strongest teams in Group C and the tournament as a whole, while Group D is the toughest group on paper with holders Iraq facing a stern test from an improved North Korean side that appeared at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and perennial Asian powerhouse Iran.
