Sixteen teams take part in the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar, a tournament that will act as preparation for the 2022 World Cup, which will also be held in the Middle Eastern Emirate.

The tournament takes place in January and players and officials are asking Fifa to move the 2022 tournament from summer to winter to avoid the oppressive heat.

Two teams will progress from each group.

The Asian Cup is the Asian Football Confederation's premier international tournament and is now held every four years.

The 2011 Asian Cup takes place in Qatar.

The tournament will be held in 5 stadiums, 4 of them in Qatar's capital Doha:
the 50,000 capacity Khalifa International Stadium
the 25,000 capacity Al-Gharafa Stadium
the 19,000 capacity Qatar SC Stadium and
the 15,000 capacity Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

The other stadium to be used is the
Ar Rayyan Ahmed bin Ali Stadium which seats 25,000 spectators.
