2012 European Championships Stadiums: PGE Arena (Gdansk)
Along with the new stadiums in Warsaw and Wroclaw, the PGE Arena in the northern seaport of Gdansk is the second of Poland's brand new stadia built in preparation for hosting Euro 2012 with Ukraine.
Located just a goal kick away from the Baltic coastline in northern Poland, the development of the 40,000 capacity state-of-the-art facility is playing a massive role in the city's rejuvenation of its waterfront area.
Gdansk has a strong industrial heritage, particularly shipbuilding, but is beginning to become more recognised as a tourist destination and the new stadium will be perfectly situated for easy access in the middle of a triangle formed by the old town, the shipyards and the airport.
Built to replace KS Lechia Gdansk's outdated 12,000-capacity stadium, the exterior is designed to resemble amber, which has long been extracted along the Baltic coast. The project has been aided by a five-year sponsorship deal with the Polish Energy Group (PGE), helping offset the estimated €160 million construction cost.
Three group matches and one quarter-final will be played there.

Supporters will be able to make use of the adequate rail, tram and bus links to the new stadium. The Glowny train station connects the city with the rest of Poland and northern Europe, as does the international Lech Walesa Airport - located just 12km outside Gdansk. However, no direct flights can be taken from here to co-host Ukraine. The PKS bus terminal has regular connections with Warsaw, which is 350km away.
