Football - 2002 World Cup Mascots & Emblems

World Cup mascots.

The names of the 3 official World Cup computer-generated mascots have been revealed after a vote by 987,411 people from all over the world. The cheeky characters live in Atmozone and it is their mission to create the special atmosphere for World Cup 2002 and capture lots of young children's pocket money.

"Ato" was chosen as the name of the glowing orange coach character with a cyber goatee, while the two blue and purple strikers will be known as "Nik" and "Kaz." "Ato" was chosen by a narrow margin over "Amo" & "Poz", whereas "Nik" and "Kaz" won comfortably over the other possible names in their category. Fans voted in Macdonald's stores in Korea & Japan and over the Net at the official FIFA World Cup site or at the Macdonald's homepages in the two host nations. The vote took place over one month from 1st February. Franc, Won and Yen were not options.
