Betting - The Premiership Weekend Wager
Sporting predictions by Chris Clegg - Putting your money where
your mouth is!
Darren Bent the rules on Sunday - think about the punters,
Daz!
Picture this: Sunderland are 1-0 up and Darren Bent had scored
first (as predicted by moi in last week's weekend wager);
punters all around are getting very excited as Darren had scored
the first from the spot (securing the 9/2 winner) and he had just
won his team a second spot kick (we all had our fivers on a Bent
hat-trick at 25/1 - the 'Fun-day' bet last week).
In fact, I had a fiver on anyone to score a hat-trick in the match
on Betfair at 27/1...everything's going swimmingly until...SHOCK
HORROR, Bent turns to his teammate and whispers, “Jonesy,
we Kenwyne this without me taking this penalty, so you have it...”
“NOOOOOOOOO!!!” We cry. And our noses our firmly rubbed
in the soil as Bent goes on to score a second later in the match,
as does Kenwyne-Jones after dispatching BENT'S penalty with
ease. Sunderland romp home (as predicted) 5-2 victors. If only Darren
hadn't bent his partner's ear and taken the penalty,
many of us would be significantly richer. Oh well, if you're
taking my tips you're still over a hundred quid up. Keep reading.
Brucey's boys travel to the champions this week hoping to
continue their good form. However, the only form they will see is
Rooney and Owen's Racing form guide lying around the changing
rooms. The form displayed by the Reds will be too good for Sunderland
and there will be no bonus for Brucey's men this week. Get
on United at 1/6 to bump up your accas!
The Wolves head back to Molineux
The Wolves head back to Molineux still yelping from the savage
they suffered at the jaws of the Black Cats on Sunday. They'll
be licking their lips at the prospect of a Portsmouth visit, though.
Expect the Wolves to come out fighting and inflict more misery that
could break the Hart of Pompey. Wolves are a tasty 10/11 which is
what Everton were to beat Pompey last week (as predicted) and they
duly obliged. So, too, will Wolves.
Tottenham are Keane to continue their good form after thrashing
struggling Hull last week (as predicted - is there a recurring
theme here?). Harry's men are 5/6 to win at Bolton this week,
which they will do so with relative ease; Jermain's Defoe
to score as Keane Robbed him of glory last week by notching 4.
I had to look twice at Wigan's odds at Hull this week: 13/10
(13/8 Hull; 11/5 draw). That's right, Wigan are odds against,
against Hull, who are certainly due some good football, but for
that you need good footballers. As tipped by me (what, again? I
hear you ask...), Rodallega made the difference for Wigan against
Chelsea last week (I wonder how many of you put your money on that?)
and if Hugo turns up this week he may just rub Phil's nose
in the Brown stuff.
The other Saturday match is at Turf Moor where Buuuurmingham will
be entertained. Well, I don't think there will be much entertainment
at the Moor on Saturday, in fact it will be as dull as dishwater
- expect a low scoring game...but Burnley will just edge it
- 11/10's not bad value; 2/1 about the Brum and 11/5
the draw, which is probably better value.
Chelsea v Liverpool
The big match on Sunday is at The Bridge and Liverpool are on
the plane already, listening to Phil Collins, after their day in
paradise last week - what, another? (as predicted) against
Hull. I said Fernando et al would get a hat full and they did. Take
heed this week and back the draw. Chelsea will be up for it and
won't be beaten; they are 11/10 whilst 'Pool are 21/10
and the draw is the same price - I know which I prefer.
The early kick off on Sunday is at the Emirates as Arsenal and
Blackburn enter the fray - if only 'Terry Henry' was still
there to continue the battle pun... He's not, but Andrei will be
Arse-havin (that's kickin ass not the other thing...) as Arsenal
slay Blackburn butts in time for Alexandre to sing a Song around
the Sunday lunch table. Arsenal are 1/5, Blackburn 10/1, 4/1 about
the draw.
Zola's men are at Upton Park against Fulham this week and
are nicely priced at evens. Fulham have struggled over recent weeks
but Roy's boys won't roll over for Zola. It's
11/5 the draw and 11/5 a Fulham victory - too hard to predict so
I'd steer clear. I'll be backing the draw though...
Everton
Lastly on Sunday, Moyes' boys are back on track and should
beat Stoke. Get on at 8/15 (Stoke 9/2; Draw 5/2 - good value...)
I didn't mention the Monday match last week so for the benefit
of the Man City fans I will this week. It's at Villa Park
and Villa are 11/8 to beat City (13/8) and I think they just might
do so as Agbonlahor has started playing again. About time too.
Wager of the weekend
Wigan to win at Hull (13/10), Wolves to beat Pompey (10/11), Spurs
win at Bolton (5/6) and Burnley to beat the Blues of Birmingham
(11/10). The four way accumulator pays over £160 for your
tenner.
Trebles for Fun
Three draws (Liverpool/Chelsea at 21/10, West Ham/Fulham 11/5
and Villa/Man City 21/10) pays around £300
