Sporting predictions by Chris Clegg - Putting your money where
your mouth is!
A Blue day for Chelsea?
The early kick off on Saturday is at Villa Park as Chelsea come
to town. Now Chelsea are tough opposition, don't get me wrong,
but the Blues really should not be odds on (4/5 in fact) to win
away at Villa; O Neil's men are rarely priced against on their
turf but for reasons only the boooookies know, they're incredibly
priced at 18/5 - yes, nearly 4/1 against winning - something
they've done more than lose at the park this season: tasty
odds, so tasty that I'm backing the draw at 12/5.
Blue Brummies
The Blues of Birmingham swap places with Chelsea - not at
the top of the league, don't be silly - they do replace
them in the capital, though, as they head for the Emirates, where
they will be hit for six by 1/6 priced Arsenal - a pathetic
price, yes, but fair enough as Wenger's boys have been going
to town on everyone who's willing to go there and the Birmingham
boys will be sent packing back to the Midlands with nothing more
than a ‘tail' of woe between their tired legs.
Bolton ‘Mustapha' Beating
It will be a similar story for Bolton at Old Trafford. Hopefully
the referee will be fit enough to keep up with the amount of goals
United manage. Again, turning the odds on their head is not a bad
call - United are 1/5 and they may just batter Bolton to the
tune of five. The Wanderers, it has to be said, are fairing rather
well this season, just under mid-table, which is the highest they'll
ever be. Megson's men's “Riga' Mustapha
chance of getting them something out of the game”, some Lancastrians
claim. I'm afraid not, it will be Good Knight Vienna for Zat
et al at half time on Saturday. Expect Fergie's army to enter
the fray with a vengeance after a lacklustre performance last time
out against Sunderland.
Stealers
Speaking of Sunderland, Brucey's boys' bonus at Old
Trafford last week will give them some confidence as the entertain
Liverpool this week up at the Stadium of Light. Bent Darren may
steal a goal and Jones may think “we Kenwyne”, but I'm
afraid I don't concur. The Black Cats are the same price to
beat Liverpool as Villa are to beat Chelsea, and far less likely
to do so. Get on Liverpool at 4/5. Scousers like stealing (apparently)
and they'll steal the points here.
Everton will pack a punch against the Wolves
Up in Merseyside, the Blue side of the city find themselves with
Wolves to contain and contain they will manage. They may also send
them packing back to Molineux minus a few goals. Everton have started
playing now and are handily priced at 4/9. Get on it.
The Houdini Act
A similar story down on the south coast as Harry Houdini returns
to his old ship - the one he disappeared from just before
it started sinking. “There's been a takeover!”
The pompey-ites” cry, “Things are about to change”.
Well, a change is as good as a holiday, they say, but there'll
be no change on Saturday and Peter will Crouch down under the goalposts
to head the Tottenham takeover on Saturday; Robbie will also be
Keane to make an impact, but it could be Defoe who is Jer'main'
man to score on Saturday.
Avram's a good appointment for Pompey I Grant you, but he
won't make a difference on Saturday and if Calamity James
isn't at the races, Spurs may romp home. 4/5 about Spurs isn't
bad; you can get 18/5 about Pompey and stranger things have happened
- last time out, for instance. Not this time.
Will Peter Reid the Script?
The final Saturday fixture sees Stoke and West Ham do battle at
the Britannia and Stoke will rule as Pulis' new number two,
Peter ‘Reids' the script perfectly. Close match but
a home win at 23/20 is where your money should be heading.
S & M
Sunday sees two games up in the North East where Wigan are wonderfully
priced at 4/1 to whip Man City and I have a funny feeling that Roberto
Martinez may be into a bit of S & M. Wigan may just spank and
maul Mark's millionaires, who are ridiculously priced at odds
on at 8/11. Join Martinez and have some fun by backing Wigan at
home.
Burn Baby Burn...betting inferno!!!
The other match is at Ewood park as there will be some burning
going on, Blackburn and Burnley. The Blackburners will emerge victorious
from the flames. 3/4 will fire up your accas. Light up, light up,
as if you have a choice - run to the booooookies NOW!!!
Wager of the week
Stoke (23/20) to beat the Hammers; Villa and Chelsea draw at 12/5;
Arsenal to beat Birmingham at 1/6; Everton to beat Wolves at 4/9;
Liverpool to win at Sunderland at 4/5 and Man Utd to beat Bolton
at 1/5. The six-timer pays over 25/1 at Hills so half a monkey for
a tenner, where else could you get that?
Fun in the Sunday?
Two homes: Blackburn and Wigan. Your tenner would scoop just under
£80. Tempted?
