Sporting predictions by Chris Clegg - Putting your money where
your mouth is!
Invisible Spurs?
A jam-packed spooky Saturday begins at The Emirates as Arsenal
take on their North London rivals, Spurs. Arsenal are scarily priced
at 8/15 and you can get around 9/2 for Houdini's ghosts: they
were invisible last week as Stoke saw through them. I think Arsenal
will win this but I wouldn't touch them, not even with an
invisible barge pole at 8/15.
Draw your lot
Up at the Reebok, BOWLton face the Blues of Chelsea and Chelsea
are 2/5. Again, the boooookies are having an evil laugh at our expense
- keep the invisible barge pole away from Ancelotti's
lot. BOWWWWLton, however, are good value at around 11/2. If I was
forced at barge-pole-point to choose one of these bets I'd
duck out of the way and go for the draw (3/1).
A grey day in Burnley
Boring Hull travel westwards to BUUUURnley (how's my Lancashire
accent so far?) and this game may just be as dull as the one they
took part in (I was going to say played but they didn't) last
week but Burnley (10/11) will shade this grey encounter, only one
goal in it, though. You can get 11/5 the draw on 5/2 about the Humbersiders,
or Yorkshiremen. Poor price.
Vanilla or Toffee?
Up in Merseyside, the blue side will welcome Aston Vanilla and
Ice creamed when I saw the prices. Surely the Evertonians should
be odds on playing on their own turf against O'Neill's inconsistent
men. They're not. 11/8 Everton; 13/8 Villa; 21/10 the draw. My money's
on the toffee men.
Losing Impetus
The Red side of the city will be in London this week as their
team visit the cottage, Craven thereof. Fulham started the season
well but have since lost their impetus. As has Rafa Benitez at Anfield.
I know, I know, they beat Man Utd last week and they were helped
along the way by C I Div, also known as Di Vic, you might know him
as Vidic: the man who loves getting sent off. One result does not
make a manager. And, yes, I know, Benitez was manager when Liverpool
won the European cup BUT he did it with Gerrard Houllier's team.
Hodgson's men may perk up on Saturday and hammer another nail into
Rafa's coffin. Get on Fulham at 11/4: Tesco Value. 23/10 the draw.
4/5 Liverpool: Asda Price. Not the best.
Close on the Coast
Down on the South coast, Pompey play hosts to Wigan and are on
good form judging by their Carling cup hammering of Stoke on Tuesday.
They'll need to be against a Wigan side full of confidence.
Rodallega, Hu might go and score again this week and earn your side
a point. Close game here, as suggested by the odds: 11/5 the draw.
Briefly
In the Midlands, Stoke will beat Wolves. It is as simple as that.
Who says I don't get straight to the point? Get on Stoke at
10/11.
The Man from Diamanti
Up in the North East, Sunderland host the man from Diamanti and
his team from West Ham. He was a hero last week as he came on to
steer the hammers to a priceless draw against high flying Arsenal
and he could be the master card again this week as West Ham take
their kings, who were previously jokers, to the Stadium of light.
As darkness descends upon Teesside, Zola's boys may just be taking
the spoils and are wickedly priced at 11/4. I'm having a bit of
that.
Travellers
Poor travellers Blackburn are not travelling far this week for
their spanking. They head a few miles south to Manchester to give
Rooney et al a field day. Expect a cricket score: they like cricket
in Lancashire. Man Utd are 1/7. Bump up your accas with some of
that. It's 9/2 about the draw and 14/1 Blackburn. Horrendous.
City Rivals
The last game next week is on Sunday at St Andrew's for
Birmingham and Man City to play in. Man City will shade this one
and are decently priced at 4/5.
Wager of the Weekend
West Ham to beat Sunderland at 11/4; Stoke to beat Wolves at 10/11
and Pompey Wigan draw (21/10). Well over £200 for your tenner.
Frightening.
Three Draws
Three draws is one of the best bets in football - you always
get over 30/1 regardless how close the matches are. If they're
not expected to be as close the odds rocket. Either choose your
own three draws or follow my advice and win a wad of cash: Fulham/Liverpool;
Everton/Villa and Bolton/Chelsea. You'll definitely get over
40/1 for these three. Over £200 for a fiver.
