Sporting predictions by Chris Clegg - Putting your money where
your mouth is!
I've got a feeling...
I've got a strange feeling that Man City might just break
their drawing sequence (seven on the bounce, no less!) against mighty
Chelsea on Saturday... I know, I know, the Blues destroyed Arsenal
on Sunday but they are due a win...and wins are often like buses
- you wait for a long time for one, then, yes you've
guessed it, two come along. City are playing Arsenal on Wednesday
in the meaningless cup. Well, it's meaningless to anyone with
a chance of winning the league or the Champion's league...so
it means a hell of a lot to the likes of Man City and Arsenal. City
might just win both matches. You can get 11/4 about them beating
Chelsea on Saturday which is tremendous value - as is 10/11
for them to beat Arsenal's under 16's on Wednesday.
Doubles for dough?
City/Chelsea is the late kick off on Saturday, whereas the early
kick-off is at Portsmouth where Burnley are the visitors. The Clarets
are a bit like my washing machine at the moment - leaky and
inconsistent. They are 3/1 against winning and I wouldn't
back them. Get on Pompey at 8/11 to Grant Avram's request
and beat the Lancashire pot shots.
Wooooohoooo!
Arsenal take on Stubborn Stoke, and the Midlanders are 9/1 to
get an unlikely result; Arsenal are 2/9 which are shockingly bad
odds. I've got a feeling (woooohoooo) that Stoke may just
Pul(is) off a point and at 19/5 - that's nearly 4/1
it would certainly rocket your accas.
At Villa Park, Aston entertain Hull and O'Neill won't be s'Martin
when his side get back to business by beating the Humbersiders.
Phil will be Browned off as his team were starting to pick up...But
like a dodgy hoover, they can only pick up for so long and they'll
be picked off by the Villa. 2/5's very poor value though but Villa
are certs: you heard it here first.
Memories...
Down at Upton Park, the Hammers will welcome United (FC of Manchester)...Ohhhh
the memories - remember Di Canio scoring in the 1-0 triumph
back in 2001? I had a pound on that one at 100/1. Carlton Cole to
score and Wham to win 1-0 won't be far off those odds -
think I'll have a pound for old time's sake (and put
a fiver on the Reds to get my money back!). On a serious note, the
draw's good value at 11/4 - double that up with Arsenal/Stoke
and you might be laaaaaughing. It's 5/1 Wham and 4/9 Fergie's
men.
Lancashire Pot Shots
Up in Lancashire the Wiganers take on Birmingham and Blackburn
play Liverpool. Now, Blackburn (16/5) aren't very good. But,
to be honest, neither are Liverpool (7/10). Again, the draw (12/5)
looks, like many Scouse ladies, well females, very attractive! Birmingham
are flying at the moment, thanks to old LB, and if Wigan aren't
at the races, the old warhorse Bowyer may just help his nags edge
it by a nose on Saturday. 11/5 about the Brum is a great price.
Same price the draw (again, tempting...) and it's evens about
Wigan - like Orwell was when he walked the road to Wigan Pier
- poor!
Yorkshiremen
The last game on Saturday is at Molineux as Wolves and Bolton
do battle. I like Mick McCarthy -he's a typical Yorkshireman:
loud, opinionated and he knows what he wants. Unfortunately, like
most Yorkshiremen, he seldom gets what he wants. I want a Jag and
a lot of money...I've got a Corsa and an overdraft. Mick wants
to win and stay up. Bolton aren't very good, I grant you,
but Wolves are as bad at the moment and both teams are staring relegation
in the face, even at this early stage of the season. There will
certainly be at least three draws on Saturday. This one will certainly
be close. I'm certain of that. 5/4 Wolves; 7/4 Bolton; 11/5
the draw.
Sunday twosome
Sunday sees another couple of close games as Everton entertain
Spurs and Fulham play Sunderland. Harry's Spurs are Hot at
the moment, as indeed are Stevie's Sunderland. Everton are
sliding down the league almost as quick as Liverpool slid into the
Europa league and I fear for Moyes' job, as indeed he will
when his side is beaten by Spurs. Get on Harry's lot at 11/8;
Everton are 13/8 and the draw's 21/10. Down at the cottage,
Brucey will get at least a bonus point - he may even get three.
Avoid Fulham at evens. The black cats are 11/5 which is very good
value for a team playing so well. It's the same price for
the draw.
Wager of the Weekend
West Ham and Stoke to claim unlikely draws against Man Utd and
Arsenal, respectively. A tenner on this double wins £180.
I'll have a double, please.
Record Breakers?
Man City equalled the record for consecutive draws in the premiership
last week (7) and I feel that there could be a record number of
draws for a premiership weekend this weekend. Any four draws wins
you well over a grand for your tenner. Here are my four: Both Sunday
games (Everton/Fulham and Sunderland/Spurs); Wolves/Bolton and Wigan/Birmingham
on Saturday. Even a tiny quid on these gets you well over a ton.
Get on.
Six o'the best
Ok I'm getting carried away now but if you add the wager
of the weekend to the record breakers and have a six-wayer (you
know you want to...) you'd be looking at nearly £2000
from a quid...or £20,000 for a tenner. Gamble responsibly
now, won't you!
