Predictions
Host nations traditionally do well in this tournament, Mexico winning
in 1999, France in 2003
and Japan reaching the final in 2001
with Germany semi-finalists in 2005. South Africa are in the easiest
of the two groups, Group A, but it's difficult, on the evidence
of their present form and FIFA ranking, seeing the Bafana Bafana
making much impression on home soil in 2009. Euro 2008 winners Spain
may be the early bookies' favorites, with Brazil unpredictable under
coach Dunga and Italy unlikely to take this event too seriously.
