FIFA Women's Soccer World Cup 2003

Tickets | Group A | Group B | Group C | Group D | Knock-Out Stage

September 20th to October 12th

Originally slated to be held in China the Women's World Cup [WWC] was moved to the USA due to the SARS scare.
Women's football has come a long way in recent years and it is to be hoped the media will take notice of the improvements in the women's game. This is the fourth FIFA Women's World Cup; team USA won the first in 1991, Norway won the second in 1995, the USA won the third in 1999.

The 2003 edition of the WWC features four groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group will progress to the quarter-finals in Foxboro/Boston and Portland.
The semi-finals will both be held in Portland on October 5th (19.30 and 22.30).
The Third/Fourth place playoff will be in Carson/Los Angeles on October 11th (15.30).
The Final will take place in Carson/Los Angeles on October 12th (13.00).

Group A

Nigeria - African Champions.
People's Republic of Korea - Asian Champions.
Sweden - third place in the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
USA - 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champions; 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champions; 3rd 1995 FIFA.
Women’s World Cup; 1996 Olympic Games Champions.

Group A is the so-called "group of death" due to the high quality of the four teams. Interesting that in the current political climate North Korea (People's Republic of Korea) will be meeting ideological enemies USA; let's hope the fireworks are restricted to the field of play.
