The 15 qualifying teams plus host Portugal will be divided into four groups of four. The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals, with a knockout system in place from that stage on. The final will be held at Benfica's new Estadio da Luz Stadium in Lisbon.

Host Portugal will play its three group games at the country's 'Big 3' stadiums - Benfica's Luz Stadium, Porto's Dragão (previously Antas) Stadium and Sporting's Alvalade XXI Stadium. The first match of the competition will kick off on June 12 at Porto's Dragão Stadium between the hosts and Greece.

There are 8 venue cities Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Faro/Loulé, Guimarães, Leiria, Lisbon and Porto. Lisbon and Porto both have two stadiums holding matches.

The planned public and private investment in the event is in the region of four billion euros. The cost of the 10 stadiums is estimated at 550 million euros, with the Portuguese government providing a quarter of the funds. Tourist spending during the event is projected at US$305 million.
The 16 teams will be competing for the Henri Delaunay trophy.
