World Cup 2006 European Qualifying Groups & Results

Hosts Portugal and group winners France, Denmark, Czech Republic, Sweden, Germany, Greece, England, Bulgaria, Italy and Switzerland plus play-off winners Latvia, Holland, Russia, Croatia and Spain have qualified for Euro 2004.

Latvia 1 v Turkey 0
Latvia outplayed Turkey for long spells and Maris Verpakovskis' 29th minute goal settled the game for the home side. The Turks had Emre Asik sent off and will also be without goal keeper Rustu Recber and defender Fatih Akyel - who both picked up yellow cards - for the return leg in Istanbul.

Turkey 2 v Latvia 2
Portuguese stadium officials breathed a huge sigh of relief as serial tunnel scrappers Turkey were eliminated in Istanbul. Latvia fought back from two goals down to make history and qualify for their first major tournament. Goals from Ilhan Mansiz and Hakan Sukur put Turkey 2-0 up before Latvia struck back through Maris Verpakovskis and Jurijs Laizans to earn Latvia their place in the Portugal sun.
Latvia qualify 3-2 on aggregate.

Scotland 1 v Holland 0
A deflected James McFadden goal midway through the first half and a disciplined Scottish rear-guard performance kept the Dutch at bay in front of 50,000 at Hampden Park. The Dutch had most of the play but couldn't find a way past Lee Wilkie and Christian Dailly at the back for Scotland. Dailly will miss the return leg in Amsterdam but Scotland's battling performance has given them real hope of progressing.

Holland 6 v Scotland 0
Disco dancer Patrick Kluivert watched mainly from the 'chill-out' room as Holland drew rave reviews in their 6-0 demolition of the Scots. The Dutch embarrassed Scotland with the help of a Ruud van Nistelrooy hat trick and goals from Wesley Sneijder, Andre Ooijer and Frank de Boer.
Holland qualify 6-1 on aggregate.

Croatia 1 v Slovenia 1
Slovenia are now favorites to progress in the 'Battle of the Balkans' after Ermin Siljak's 22nd minute header equalized Dado Prso's fifth minute goal for the home side. The home side were denied by a great performance by Slovenian keeper Mladen Dabanovic who made some outstanding saves.

Slovenia 0 v Croatia 1
Monaco striker Dado Prso scored on the hour mark to propel Croatia to Euro 2004, just minutes after team-mate Igor Tudor had been sent off for a second bookable offense.
Croatia qualify 2-1 on aggregate.

Russia 0 v Wales 0
Wales defended superbly in Moscow to give themselves a real chance of progressing to Portugal with the home leg to come in Cardiff.

Wales 0 Russia 1
Ryan Giggs' elbow grease seemed to do the trick as a first-half headed goal from Russian full-back Vadim Evseev gives Welsh hopes the elbow of competing at their first major finals since 1958.
Russia qualify 1-0 on aggregate.

Spain 2 v Norway 1
Spain struggled to overcome Norway in Valencia and had to come from behind with goals from Raul and a Henning Berg own goal after Wolves striker Steffen Iversen had given Norway an early lead.

Norway 0 v Spain 3
Goals from Raul, Vicente Rodriguez and Joseba Etxeberria secured Spain's place at Euro 2004 5-1 on aggregate at the expense of long-ball merchants Norway.
Spain qualify 5-1 on aggregate.

First leg matches to be played 15th/16th November.
Second leg matches to be played 18th/19th November.
