World Cup 2006 Qualifying Draw: Europe
Europe will have 14 slots for the 2006 World Cup. Germany qualifies
automatically as host nation. 51 teams will compete for the remaining
13 slots from 8 groups. The 8 group winners and the two best runner-up
teams overall qualify automatically for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
The other runner-ups will be drawn into home and away playoff-games
to complete the final three berths.

Play Offs, Second Leg November 16
The Czech Republic 1 v Norway 0 The Czechs are through to Germany.

Slovakia 1 v Spain 1
Spain books a ticket to the World Cup on goal difference. In a downpour,
David Villa gets his first goal for Spain.
Turkey 4 Switzerland 2
The Swiss qualify on away goals with a 4-4 aggregate scoreline.
Play Offs, First Leg November 12
Norway 0 v The Czech Republic 1
Vladimir Smicer's header separated the two teams on a mud-bath in
Oslo.
Spain 5 v Slovakia 1
A Luis Garcia hat-trick
virtually assures Spain of a ticket to Germany.
Switzerland 2 v Turkey 0
The Swiss have a slight edge after goals from Arsenal's Philippe
Senderos and Varon Behrami of Lazio.
The two-legged home and away ties will be played on 12 November
and 16 November. The three teams highest in the FIFA
world rankings--the Czech Republic (4th), Spain (8th) and Turkey
(12th)--were placed in one pot and will play a team drawn from the
second pot either Norway (37th), Switzerland (38th) or Slovakia
(45th).
