Munich Stadium - Allianz Arena
Stadion
München - Allianz Arena (new) - 66,000 capacity.
After the planned reconstruction of Munich's Olympic Stadium was
rejected, a new football-specific stadium designed by Swiss architects
Herzog and de Meuron will be built in the northern Fröttmaning
area of the city.
The futuristic design features a smooth transparent shell - made
up of hundreds of inflatable cushions - acting as a projection surface
to cover the stadium in waves of different colors.
All 66,000 seats will be covered and the estimated cost of 280 million
Euros makes the stadium the most expensive of the 2006 World Cup.
In a deal worth 90 million Euros the insurance company Allianz
is set to keep its name on the stadium for 15 years until 2021.
The projected completion date is the summer of 2005. The 2006 World
Cup opening match will be held at the stadium and the World Cup
media centre based here.

Getting
to Stadion München
The new stadium will be the home ground of rivals TSV 1860 München
and FC Bayern München, who now play their home games in the
aging and somewhat atmosphere-lacking Olympicstadion.
Different coloured lights can turn the walls red (Bayern) or blue
(1860) depending on which team is playing.
Train: Access (about 10 minutes on foot) from the Fröttmaning
underground station on Line U6.
