*Brazil
This may be the "Group of Death" but most observers fully
expect Dunga and his richly-talented team to emerge at the top of
it come June 2010. Brazil already have experience of winning a tournament
in the Rainbow Nation when they lifted the Confederations
Cup in 2009 and a lot of people's money will be on them repeating
the feat a year on. A good goalkeeper, an excellent defence and
the ability to counter-attack at speed make Brazil the team to fear.
Add strength in depth and individual ability in spades, look no
further than Brazil to repeat their win of 2002.

North Korea
North Korea qualified along with neighbors South Korea from Asian
qualifying group 2. Back on the big stage for the first time since
the 1966 World Cup when the Chollima shocked Italy 1-0 at Ayresome
Park, North Korea will not want for effort but could be on for a
pasting against three such strong teams in their group. Some of
the North's players are Koreans born in Japan and play their soccer
in the J-League and K-League: Jong Tae-Se (Chong Tese) was born
in Nagoya and represents Kawasaki Frontale, Ahn
Young-hak was also born in Japan but plays in South Korea with
Suwon Bluewings. Hong Yong-Jo, though North Korean born, represents
FC Rostov in Russia.

Ivory Coast
Many people's pick to be the best African team at the tournament,
Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) have been handed a very tough
draw indeed. They could well go far but first they have to get out
of this group and that could mean having to beat Portugal. This
is cruel luck after being in another "Group of Death"
with Argentina and The Netherlands in Germany in 2006. Manchester
City defender Kolo Toure and Sevilla's talented Didier Zokora
add experience to what is a powerful all round squad, which also
includes such talents as Barcelona's Yaya Touré, Chelsea's
Salomon Kalou, Pompey's Aruna Dindane and Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboué.

Portugal
Portugal struggled to qualify for South Africa needing a play off
win against surprise package Bosnia after finishing second behind
Denmark in Group
1. Carlos Queiroz's team found it hard to find the net, scoring
just 17 goals in the group with 8 of those coming against Malta,
Ronaldo not registering a goal during the whole campaign. Still
the squad is packed with talent: Ronaldo, Nani, Deco, Ricardo Carvalho
and Simao Sabrosa would find a place in most starting XIs. The opening
game against Ivory Coast in Port Elizabeth may well decide the fate
of the 2010 vintage of the Selecção das Quinas.
