All 10 teams in the group play each other home and away and the
top 4 teams qualify automatically for World Cup 2010. The fifth
placed South American team will play off with a team from Concacaf
(Caribbean, Central and North American Confederation)

A first half goal from Diego Lugano gave Urugauy the edge going
in to the second leg. Costa Rica were reduced to 10 men in the second
half with the sending off of Randall Azofeifa.

Martin Palermo's last gasp goal deep in injury time salvaged a win
for the hosts in pouring rain in Buenos Aires. Earlier Madrid's
Gonzalo Higuain had opened the scoring for Argentina with Hernan
Rengifo heading an equaliser for Peru in the 90th minute.

Burgoa and Martins had first half goals for the hosts, with Nilmar
replying after the break for Brazil.

An injury-time penalty from Diego Forlan means Uruguay can claim
automatic qualification with a win over Argentina in their last
match at home. Manchester
United winger Antonio Valencia opened the scoring for Ecuador
but Suarez equalized for Uruguay within a minute before Forlan sealed
the points from the spot.
