Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg
is South Africa's major international and domestic
airport. OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) is located in Kempton
Park about 25km north east of Johannesburg. OR Tambo International
Airport is South Africa's busiest airport and handled over 19 million
passengers in 2007. ORTIA is situated at 1700 metres above sea level
and airplanes cannot operate at full fuel capacity when taking off
from the airport.
The airport is undergoing extensive redevelopment in preparation
for the 2010 World Cup including the expansion of the international
terminal.
A new transit station between the domestic and international terminals
is under construction, which will accommodate the Gautrain
station linking ORTIA to the financial district of Sandton.
The 80-kilometer Gautrain MTR project, when completed, will link
Pretoria, Johannesburg
and the airport.

Johannesburg to Cape Town is two hours; Johannesburg to Durban
is 1 hour, 15 minutes; Cape Town to Durban is two hours; Johannesburg
to Port Elizabeth is one hour, 40 minutes.
Flying Details
Check-in times are normally one hour before departure for a domestic
flight. The no-frills options have a pay onboard service only.
