World Cup 2002Korea/Japan

The World Cup in Korea/Japan 2002 was one of the most enjoyable, exotic and fan-friendly World Cup tournaments of recent years.

Brazil won the tournament thanks to the brilliance of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo but the people of Korea and Japan captured the hearts of a generation of traveling fans.

Look back to our in-depth travel guides to the host cities in Japan and Korea, see our cultural and travel essentials to the host nations, fan images, stadiums and news reports on a great festival of world football. France were the pre-tournament favourites having won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 Euros, but crashed out of the group stages with reports of player infighting and problems with team management.

Find full results and team profiles on the 32 competing nations, player profiles and World Cup stats.
