World Cup 2018

The World Cup in Russia in 2018 will be the first time the tournament has been held in the country and the 21st World Cup since the first in Uruguay in 1930.

The tournament will run from 14 June to 15 July, 2018 with the opening match featuring the hosts to be played in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow with the final scheduled for the same stadium.

The 2018 World Cup faces some problems in terms of travel infrastructure and security for fans but promises to be something different. Russia will, however, have to address its problems of football hooliganism and racism for the tournament to be a total success.

Russian Venue Cities

Moscow and St. Petersburg will be the main attractions for traveling football fans with other venues in Sochi, Yekaterinburg. Kaliningrad, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Saransk, Samara and Volgograd.

In September 2012 Luzhniki Stadium and Spartak Stadium (Otkrytiye Arena) in Moscow where chosen as venues along with the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, the Krestovsky Stadium (Saint Petersburg Stadium) in Saint Petersburg, the Kaliningrad Stadium in Kaliningrad, the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Nizhny Novgorod, the Kazan Arena in Kazan, the Cosmos Arena (Samara Arena) in Samara, the Mordovia Arena in Saransk, the Volgograd Arena in Volgograd, the Rostov Arena in Rostov-on-Don and the Central Stadium (Yekaterinburg Arena) in Yekaterinburg.
