The Zugspitze near Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the highest point in Germany. The Zugspitze is 2,962 metres above sea level. Located in the Wetterstein range, the mountain was first scaled in 1820. To hike to the summit of the mountain can take 2-3 days with an overnight stay in an alpine hut (Hütte) but it can also be climbed in a day if you return by cable car.
There are two cable cars that run to the summit, one each from Germany and Austria.
