Solarsiedlung Bramkampstrasse is a pilot scheme of over 75 solar homes grouped around the new comprehensive school in Gelsenkirchen in the industrial Ruhr region of Germany. The emission of carbon dioxide is 55 percent lower than in conventional residential areas. On every rooftop solar panels were built for water heating and photo cells to generate electricity.
