The new multi-purpose sports arena in Busan has a seating capacity of 55,982 seats and was completed in September 2001 after construction work largely funded by Busan city began in March 1996. The spectacular roof was made by a German company and represents the waves of the nearby ocean in this port city. The stadium enjoys fantastic access thanks to a 30 meter wide surrounding deck and incorporates solar lighting and other eco-features. Cash-strapped local team Pusan I'Park (ex-I'cons) may not have enough money to move in after the World Cup. The stadium cost $US 170m to build and has become something of a white elephant in South Korea's second city.
