World Cup Football - Match Venues - Ibaraki Stadium
The spectacular stadium is home to the J-League's Kashima Antlers and has been enlarged to reach a capacity of 41,800 spectators in time for World Cup 2002. The 15,000 capacity Ibaraki Prefectural Kashima Soccer Stadium opened on the site of the present ground in 1992. At the time it was the the first soccer-only stadium in Japan with full-scale facilities. This stadium was renovated in time for the 2002 World Cup and opened in 2001. It now has a capacity of 40,003.
