Referees & Assistant Referees for World Cup 2002

FIFA announced in January the full list of 36 referees and 36 assistant referees for the 2002 World Cup. No real surprises here with Italian super-ref Pierluigi Collina heading the list from UEFA. England captain David Beckham may not wish to reacquaint himself with Danish referee Kim Milton Nielsen who sent him off in the game against Argentina at France '98. England may be happy to know, however, that there is a Belorussian linesman, Yury Dupanau, to come to their aid.

There are a few names for journalists to conjure with, Paul Smith should be the height of fashion as he runs the line and "Dallas stuns USA" could run if Scottish ref Hugh is in charge of any of their matches.

Jorge Larrionda the 33-year old Uruguayan referee has been suspended for 6 months by the Uruguayan FA for unexplained 'irregularities' only two days after his appointent to the FIFA list and may not now take up his whistle.
