Grounds for Concern
FIFA is concerned that the building of 42,256 seat Seogwipo Stadium on Jeju (Cheju) Island, a popular resort off the southern coast of Korea, is behind schedule. A FIFA fact-finding mission in April 2001 found grounds for concern regarding the pace of construction work at the stadium and surrounding facilities.
According to Seogwipo authorities the work is more than 73% completed and should be ready by December 2001. The stadium has a striking design with a Teflon and steel roof covering one half of the stadium, which is set in a stunning coastal location.
