Reduced Spending on World Cup by Japan

The original budget of Yen 63,400,000,000 ($US510m) earmaked for the World Cup is to be cut to Yen 60,700,000,000 ($US489m) due to the economic slowdown in Japan and an appreciation in the value of the US dollar. This amounts to a reduction in the order of £14.8.

Cash crisis in Italy.

The ten local authorities hosting the event in Japan will be asked to cough up 100 million yen apiece. This is in addition to the 100 million they were asked to contribute in December 2000.
