Sifting through Opta data on the early games in the World Cup, it has been concluded in the Japanese media that one of the hidden strengths of the sixteen teams that made into the Second Round is shooting accuracy. Japan, though, finished dead last in the percentage of shots on goal, and 29th of the 32 teams that started the tournament. Another point highlighted was goal rate—with Brazil top with 24%, followed by Germany and Spain with 20%—which is a reflection of strong finishing and one of the keys to success. In the fouls department, Japan was the runaway leader with 100.
