Images of Austria:Stephansdom (St. Stephen's Cathedral) in Vienna has its origins in the 12th century and is the most important religious site in Austria. The south tower of the cathedral stands at 136 meters tall. The 111 meter-long roof is covered by approximately 230,000 glazed, colored tiles. The Mosaic Roof features over 230,000 glazed tiles arranged in a zigzag pattern alongside a double-headed eagle emblem representing the former Habsburg empire. The South Tower (Steffl) soars at 136 meters, visitors can climb 343 steps for panoramic views of Vienna. The Pummerin Bell is housed in the North Tower, it is one of the largest free-swinging church bells in Europe.
