South Africa Travel + Tourism Guide: Cape Town's Camps Bay

Camps Bay

Set in a small natural amphitheatre below the Lion's Head and Twelve Apostles peaks of Table Mountain, Camps Bay is a prosperous beach suburb west of Cape Town city centre and just south of the fashionable area of Clifton.

One of the most desirable locations in Cape Town, Victoria Road (M6) and Camps Bay Drive (M62) which run through Camps Bay are packed with restaurants and shops. The palm-tree lined sandy beach is ideal for picnics and attracts a multi-racial crowd.

As an affluent resort area especially popular with overseas holiday-makers in the European winter season, Camps Bay offers a variety of accommodation options: apartments, hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, villas and beach bungalows. Recommended hotels in Camps Bay include - The 12 Apostles Hotel & Spa on Victoria Street, Camps Bay Resort on Camps Bay Drive, Bay Reflections Apartments or Ocean View Villa.

Look out for the beach volleyball tournaments in the South African summer and a pretty lively night life once the sun has gone down as the young, bronzed and beautiful gather. There are good waves off the beach ideal for surfing and body-boarding.
