The new Besiktas StadyumuCapacity - 32,145
Located within walking distance to tourist attractions such as the Istanbul Modern, Taksim Square and the Dolmabahçe Palace, Besiktas Inönü Stadium was the most easily accessible stadium in Istanbul.
The stadium was home to Besiktas, or the 'Black Eagles' and is on the European side of Istanbul. The ground had a capacity of 32,145 and held the world record for the loudest decibel level ever recorded at a football ground (132dB) during a Besiktas v Fenerbahçe game a number of seasons ago.
The team are nicknamed The EaglesAnother unique fact about Besiktas Inönü Stadium and its successor is that it is the only ground in the world from which two continents are visible.
The stadium, apart from the Eski Açik tribune, was demolished in the summer of 2013, to allow for the construction of a new $120 million state-of-the-art stadium (Besiktas Stadyumu, currently known as the Tupras Stadyumu for sponsorship reasons) with plans for a retractable glass roof (that did not materialize). A congress centre, 5-star hotel and parking spaces for 2,700 are also planned to be created on the stadium site. The new stadium opened in 2016.
'Eagles' fans will be hoping to experience the same levels of success in their new surroundings as they have had in their old ground. Besiktas have beaten the likes of Liverpool, Marseille, Paris St Germain, AC Milan and Barcelona at the old Besiktas Inönü Stadium.
Metro
Taksim Metro Station is a short walk from the stadium. On leaving the station, supporters should follow signs for Dolmabahçe Palace, heading down Inönü Cd where the ground is located.
Tram
Supporters arriving at Istanbul’s train station are able to travel to the ground by tram. Tram 38 to Kabatas can be caught out side the station and also on Ragip Gümüspala Cd near to Istanbul’s 'Spice Bazaar'. On arrival at Kabatas, walk towards the Dolmabahçe Palace along Meclis-i Mebusan Cd. The stadium is on the left hand side.
