Japan World Cup Football - Match Venues - Niigata Stadium

Photograph of Niigata Stadium

The new 42,700-seat 'Big Swan' stadium in Niigata was completed in time for the Confederations Cup in June 2001. There are great views of the surrounding countryside from the multi-purpose stadium and a fine view of the pitch itself with absolutely no obstructions. The turf was specially imported from the USA. However, the roof does not cover all the spectators, who are also a fair distance from the pitch. The stadium is home to the J.League's Albirex Niigata.
