Portugal is most easily and quickly reached by plane. There are various schedule, charter and no-frills flights from many Europe capitals to Lisbon, Porto and Faro in the Algarve with the UK being the most competitive in terms of price. Online travel websites offer good bargains.
The Portuguese national airline TAP flies to the UK (London Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast), Germany (Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart), France (Paris, Marseilles, Nice), Switzerland (Geneva, Zurich), Spain (Barcelona, Madrid), Italy (Bologna, Milan, Rome, Turin), Belgium, Sweden, Holland, Greece, Ireland, Luxemburg and to the USA.
Most other national carriers have scheduled flights in to Portugal and other destinations in Europe from a variety of cities including Air France, British Airways (BA), KLM and Virgin Atlantic. From Asia Singapore Airlines has flights to London and Frankfurt where onward connections to Portugal can be made.
Most scheduled flights fly into Lisbon though many charter flights use Faro for the Algarve coast. It is possible to book flights flying in to Lisbon and departing via Porto or vice versa with TAP.
