Capacity

Stadion Köln (reconstruction) - 45,000 capacity for World Cup 2006. Presently the ground can accommodate 50,000 fans which comprises 41,825 seats and 8,175 safe standing spaces.

History

The predecessor to the new World Cup stadium was the Müngersdorfer Stadion, the only fully covered stadium in Germany when it was built in 1975.
The ground is home to FC Köln of the Bundesliga.
Total costs for the stadium are estimated at 110 million Euros.

For Euro 2024 the stadium will be called Cologne Stadium

Now known as the RheinEnergieStadion, it has a seating capacity of around 50,000 spectators for football matches, and it can accommodate larger crowds for concerts and other events. Its design features a mix of covered and open seating sections, with modern facilities for both spectators and players.

The stadium was also a venue stadium for Euro 2024 and hosted five matches. These were as follows:

15 June (Group A): Hungary vs. Switzerland
19 June (Group A): Scotland vs. Switzerland
22 June (Group E): Belgium vs. Romania
25 June (Group C): England vs. Slovenia

30 June: (Round of 16): Spain vs Georgia

FC Köln

The club, nicknamed 'Die Geißböcke' (The Billy Goats), were founded as late as 1948 following a merger of Kölner Ballspiel-Club 1901 and SpVgg Sülz 07. Some famous ex-players include Wolfgang Overath, Lukas Podolski (who began his career at the club before moves to Bayern, Arsenal and Vissel Kobe in Japan), Toni Schumacher (over 400 games in goal), and Pierre Littbarski, who together define much of the club's modern history. Other icons include Hans Schäfer, Heinz Flohe, Dieter Müller, and keeper Bodo Illgner who made over 300 appearances for the club before a move to Real Madrid, along with modern-day stalwarts like Jonas Hector, who spent almost his entire career with the club.

The stadium has a high percentage of wheelchair seating (20%) relative to other German venues, with 5 accessible toilets.

Tours

The club offers several guided stadium tours including match day tours, providing behind-the-scenes access to the home of FC Köln. Tours generally last 75-90 minutes and include visits to the changing rooms, player tunnel, and the dugouts. For further details see: www.rheinenergiestadion.de

Getting to Stadion Köln

The stadium is the home ground of FC Köln.
Train: From the Dom or Hauptbahnhof take lines 16, 17, 18 or 19, change at Neumarkt then Line 1 towards Junkersdorf and get off at Stadion. Special services operate on match days.
