The city is planning public big screen airings
of World Cup matches as well as information and help for fans who
visit during the event.
Bayreuth is the biggest city in Upper Franconia. It is a center
of culture with year-round attractions, over twenty museums and
a modern university, and is the hi-tech city of its region. Bayreuth
is also the gateway to the Fichtel mountains, a good place for winter
sports, and ‘Franconian Switzerland,’ a romantic hilly
area visited by kayakers and hikers.

Bayreuth is famous for its Margravial Opera House, “the
most beautiful baroque theatre in Europe”. The Richard Wagner
Festival is held annually here, though Mark Twain, on one of his
trips to Europe, famously said, "Richard Wagner's music is
better than it sounds." The opera has house has been selected
by the German government to be nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage
Site.
Many other festivals are held in this Bavarian town, international
center of culture that it is. They feature art, music and drama.
There are also palaces and classical water fountains besides the
acoustically-famous Richard-Wagner-Festspielhaus.
Other attractions: the championship golf course; the Lohengrin
thermal spa; the gardens of the Hermitage; Carnival (February) ;
wheatbeer festival; the Volkfest (People’s Beer Festival);
the Midsummer Nights Festival; Das Bayreuther Filmfest, a short-film
festival for amateurs and professionals alike.
