Mongolia National Premier League
Mongolia is a football mad nation and the beautiful game is definitely the most popular team sport since the game was introduced to the nation in 1946.
The highest level of domestic football in the 'Steppes' is the Mongolia National Premier League which started in 1996.
The Mongolian domestic season consists of the Premier League, MFF Cup and Mongolia super cup.
Clubs
There are ten teams that compete in the league and past recent winners include Erchim and Ulaanbaatar City and Athletic 220 FC.
Due to the harsh weather, seasons start in late April and last until late October or early November as the freezing cold weather makes surfaces unplayable and conditions are too frigid to play top level games.
Games are regularly played at the MFF Football Centre, National Sports Stadium, G-Mobile Arena, Erchim Stadium & Erdenet Stadium.
Erchim FC
Founded in 1994, 'The Lightnings' play at the 5,000 capacity MFF Football Centre whih has an artificial playing surface.
Ulaanbaatar City
Ulaanbaatar City dissolved in 2023 following a dispute with the national football governing body, the Mongolian Football Federation (MFF). They used to play at the 5,300 capacity G-Mobile Arena.
Athletic 220 FC
The club was established in 2016 but dissolved in 2022 because of financial difficulties.
