Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara

Situated in Santa Clara, part of wealthy Silicon Valley, in the San Francisco Bay area, the stadium opened in 2014 and is the home of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers.

During the 2026 tournament Levi's Stadium will be known as San Francisco Bay Area Stadium to comply with FIFA regulations on sponsorship and will stage 6 games in total.

Capacity, History & Design

The stadium first opened in 2014 and has a capacity of 68,500 which can be expanded to 75,000 for events such as the Super Bowl.

The stadium has several eco-friendly features including a 27,000 square foot green roof, a massive solar array powering home games, extensive use of recycled water for 85% of its needs, and reclaimed materials throughout the construction.

Altogether, the stadium has 1,162 solar panels, including on three NRG Energy pedestrian bridges and the NRG Solar Terrace. The solar energy generated can cover all 49ers home games. In addition, over 80% of water used is reclaimed, with a specialized system supplying irrigation for the field and green roof, as well as toilet flushing.

The 49ers Museum at Levi's Stadium is a 20,000-square-foot facility featuring 11 galleries, interactive exhibits, and extensive memorabilia celebrating the team's history. Highlights include the Edward DeBartolo Senior 49ers Hall of Fame which features over 25 life-size, detailed statues of legendary Hall of Fame players.

The naming rights to the stadium were purchased by Levi's when the stadium first opened in 2014.

Uses

The main use of the stadium is as home to the San Francisco 49ers.

Additionally, Levi's Stadium has hosted Major League Soccer (MLS) matches, international friendlies (FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and AC Milan have all played here), CONCACAF Gold Cup fixtures in 2017 and 2013, and 2016 Copa América Centenario games. Indeed, the very first event at the stadium was a soccer match between the San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders FC.

As a music venue, the stadium has also staged concerts and pro-wrestling events. Performers who have played here include Beyoncé, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Guns N' Roses, The Grateful Dead, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Metallica and more.

Access

Getting to Levi's Stadium by public transport is best via VTA Light Rail (Great America Station) or VTA bus (Tasman Dr. & Great America Pkwy). From San Francisco, take Caltrain to Mountain View and transfer to VTA, or from the East Bay, take BART to Milpitas and transfer to the VTA Orange Line.

The Orange Line stops directly at the Great America Station on the north side of the stadium.

Local VTA buses service the area, with stops at the intersection of Tasman Drive and Great America Parkway.

Amtrak Capitol Corridor trains run to Levi's Stadium from Auburn, Berkeley, Davis, Emeryville, Fairfield, Fremont/Centerville, Hayward, Martinez, Oakland, Richmond, Rocklin, Roseville, Sacramento, San Jose, Santa Clara, and Suisun.

The closest major airport to Levi's Stadium is Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport (SJC), about 6 miles southeast of the stadium (roughly a 15-to-20-minute drive depending on traffic).
