Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania opened in 2002 and is the home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and the Temple Owls American football team of Temple University.

It is one of six stadiums in the eastern region of North America along with Toronto Stadium (BMO Field) in Canada, Atlanta Stadium, Miami Stadium, Gillette Stadium in Boston, and New York New Jersey Stadium, the venue for the 2026 World Cup final, in the USA.

During the 2026 tournament the venue will be called Philadelphia Stadium due to FIFA's regulations on sponsorship names.

The stadium will stage 6 games altogether during the 2026 World Cup.

Capacity, History & Design

The stadium first opened in 2003 replacing Veterans Stadium which dated from 1971. The new venue was completed at a cost of $512 million.

Designed with a modern yet distinctly Philadelphia character, the arena combines exposed brick, steel and glass to reflect the city's industrial heritage. Opened in 2003, the stadium features sweeping sightlines, wide concourses and an open-bowl layout. Its design also prioritises fan comfort and sustainability, incorporating upgraded hospitality areas, energy-efficient systems and environmentally conscious features that include 10,000 solar panels that have made it one of the NFL's leading green stadiums.

The open air venue is part of the 260-acre South Philadelphia Sports Complex, which also houses the city's baseball stadium (Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies) and a multi-purpose indoor arena used by Philadelphia's basketball, hockey and lacrosse teams.

Philadelphia Stadium will have a capacity of 68,527 for the World Cup.

The natural turf playing surface will not need replacing before the football kicks off in June.

Uses

The stadium is home to the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles as well as the Temple Owls, the American football team of Temple University.

As a venue for soccer, the stadium has staged a number of both international and club friendlies, several 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup matches and games at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Matches at the 2016 Copa América Centenario also took place in Philly. Most recently Financial Field staged 8 games at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

For a brief period in 2010 the Linc was home to Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer (MLS) before their soccer-specific Subaru Park was ready.

As a music venue the stadium has seen the usual big names perform in Philadelphia such as Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Guns N' Roses, One Direction, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Taylor Swift, et al.

Regular stadium tours include access to the playing field, the Eagles' locker room, team tunnel, and post-game Eagles interview room.

Access

The nearest airport to Lincoln Financial Field is Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), located about 7 miles (a 10 to 15-minute drive) away. The stadium is in South Philadelphia and about 4 miles from downtown. It is just north of the Delaware River and the Pennsylvania / New Jersey state line.

To get to Lincoln Financial Stadium (locally referred to as the "Linc") from Center City Philadelphia, or anywhere on the city's one subway line, is easy.

Take SEPTA's (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) Broad Street subway line south to the last stop. It is now called NRG. The ride is 15-20 minutes from City Hall. Then it's about 10 minutes on foot to the stadium.

You can also take an Uber or hire a cab.

Traffic on match days will be heavy, but no different from an Eagles home game. Most Americans will be driving.
