Predictions

Host nations traditionally do well in this tournament, Mexico winning in 1999, France in 2003 and Japan reaching the final in 2001 with Germany semi-finalists in 2005, though Brazil broke this trend by defeating the USA 3-2 in South Africa in 2009. Euro 2012 winners Spain may be the early bookies' favorites, with Brazil unpredictable under new coach Felipe Scolari and Italy unlikely to take this event too seriously. Japan and Mexico, who are past winners of this competition, will not be push-overs though are unlikely to challenge Brazil on home soil and top-ranked Spain; Tahiti look way out of their depth in this company.
