Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey opened in 2010 as the Red Bull Arena and is home to the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer and Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League. The NY/NJ MetroStars officially became the New York Red Bulls in 2006, when Red Bull GmbH purchased the Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise and rebranded it.

Capacity, History & Design

The soccer-specific stadium first opened in 2010 and has a capacity of 25,000 thus making it the 6th largest soccer stadium in the USA and MLS.

Sports Illustrated Stadium features a distinctive, PTFE fiberglass curved roof that covers all seating areas, steep stands that create an intimate atmosphere, and excellent sightlines designed specifically for soccer. Constructed at a cost of around $200 million, the venue is widely regarded as one of Major League Soccer's best stadiums. In 2024, it was renamed Sports Illustrated Stadium as part of a long-term naming rights agreement with Sports Illustrated Tickets. The impressive venue was designed by Rossetti Architects.

Uses

The stadium is home to the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer and Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League. Some well-known former Red Bulls (previously NY/NJ MetroStars) players include former Arsenal great Thierry Henry, Youri Djorkaeff, and Mexico's Rafael Márquez, as well as club legends like Bradley Wright-Phillips, goalkeeper Tim Howard, and striker Juan Pablo Ángel, who scored over 50 goals for the club between 2007 and 2010.

As well as New York Red Bulls and Gotham FC matches, the stadium has hosted a number of both international and club friendlies, games at the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Club sides who have played friendlies here include Arsenal, Barcelona, Benfica, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Juventus, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Olympique Lyonnais, Roma and Spurs.

New York City FC have also played here when their own stadium has been unavailable for various reasons.

During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sports Illustrated Stadium will serve as the venue for the NYNJ World Cup 26 Jersey Fan Hub festival, running from June 11 to July 14, 2026. In addition, the adjacent Red Bull Training Facility will be used as a training base for national teams competing in matches at nearby MetLife Stadium.

Various rugby union games have also been played at the venue.

As a music arena the stadium has played host to a number of artists and bands such as Dispatch, DNCE and Ludacris.

Access

The stadium is in Harrison, New Jersey but only seven miles from downtown New York and Manhattan.

Sports Illustrated Stadium is easily accessible by public transport, with the most popular route being the PATH train to the Harrison PATH Station. From here, the stadium is under 10 minutes on foot.

Alternatively, take an NJ Transit train from NY Penn Station to Newark Penn Station, then take the PATH train one stop to Harrison. The 40 New Jersey Transit Bus also stops close to the ground.

The stadium is fully ADA-compliant and offers excellent accessibility for wheelchair users. The venue features wheelchair and companion seating across multiple price points, accessible concession stands, and designated ADA parking.
