Manchester City Look to Make Champions League History against Inter

This season's Champions League final takes place on Saturday, June 10, as Pep Guardiola's Manchester City takes on Simone Inzaghi's Inter at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
The English side head into the showpiece after being crowned Premier League champions. Top scorer Erling Haaland will be desperate to add to his goals tally as City bids to win the European Cup for the first time in their history.
Inter, meanwhile, defeated fierce city rivals Milan in the semi-finals and finished in the top four of Serie A, above Roma and Juventus. Romelu Lukaku and co-head into Saturday's match as underdogs but will be hopeful they can clinch Inter's first UEFA Champions League final triumph since 2010 as Diego Milito scored a brace to defeat Bayern Munich.
Here, we'll run through Champions League final history before the two teams look to write their own in Europe's stellar competition.
Record Champions League Winners and How the European Cup has Evolved
Real Madrid is by far the most successful club on the continent, having won the European Cup a record 14 times and dominating the competition during its maiden years.
Los Blancos clinched La Decima (their tenth triumph) in 2014 as Cristiano Ronaldo scored in a 4-1 win over city rivals Atletico and have gone on to clinch four more victories since, defeating Liverpool last time out in the 2022 final.
Since the first tournament in 1955, a total of 22 clubs have won the European Cup.
Initially a straight knockout competition, only the champions of each nation entered. However, since the tournament was renamed the UEFA Champions League in 1992, the most successful leagues enter as many as five teams and compete in qualifying and group stage rounds.
The modern version of the Champions League sees 32 teams divided into eight groups before the top two enter the last 16.
The Teams Who Have Won the Most Champions League Titles
While Real Madrid is well ahead of the chasing pack, Milan is the second-most successful club in European Cup history. They won two titles in the 90s and most recently lifted the trophy in 2003 and 2007.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich are next on the list, with six each, while Barcelona has won the Champions League five times. Four of those triumphs came between 2006 and 2015 as the Catalans dominated thanks to the magic of Lionel Messi.
Should favourites Man City beat Inter this season, they will become the sixth English club to lift the iconic trophy after Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Nottingham Forest.
