Capacity, History & Design
The stadium first opened in 2009 and was completed at a cost of $1.3 billion, mostly privately funded by Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones, hence the stadium's alternative name 'Jerry World'. It will have a capacity of 70,122 for the World Cup.
Natural grass has been installed for the tournament as per FIFA specifications, temporarily replacing the artificial turf used in the NFL.
The arena's architecture features an enormous retractable roof, made of two giant panels that slide open or closed in about 12 minutes. The roof spans roughly 660,000 square feet and allows the venue to function as either an indoor or outdoor stadium.
Two monumental steel arches stretch about 1,290 feet across the arena rising approximately 292 feet above the playing surface. These arches support the roof while eliminating the need for interior columns, creating unobstructed views throughout the venue.
The exterior includes a dramatic 800-foot angled glass façade, giving the building a sleek, futuristic appearance while also helping bring natural light into interior spaces.
Facilities include a 160-foot, multi-million dollar video board suspended 90 feet above the playing field - the world's largest HD video display according to the Guinness Book of Records.
Uses
The stadium is home to the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL and the naming rights were sold to American Telephone and Telegraph Company in 2013.
In 2010 the stadium staged the 2010 NBA All-Star Game and has also hosted various soccer games over the years. These include international, prestige friendly games, CONCACAF Gold Cup matches, as well as 2024 Copa América group stage fixtures.
Several high profile boxing, wrestling and ice hockey events have also been held at the vast arena.
As a music venue the stadium has also staged around 50 concerts since it opened. Performers who have played here include AC/DC, Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, BTS, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Guns N' Roses, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, U2 and more.
Access
The stadium is situated in Arlington 17 miles west of downtown Dallas. The closest major commercial airport to AT&T Stadium is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), located about 15 miles north of the stadium. From here it is about 30 minutes by car or taxi.
Getting there by public transport is something of a challenge. CentrePort Station is on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) rail line which has commuter trains between Dallas and Fort Worth. However, this transport hub is still over 12 km from the stadium.
There are buses from Fort Worth to Arlington Andrews Street near the stadium and from Dallas TX - Greyhound Station to Arlington Andrews Street.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is hoping to provide extra trains and buses on match days - watch this space!
Address: 1 AT&T Way, Arlington, TX 76011, USA.
Accessibility
AT&T Stadium provides wheelchair and companion seating with enhanced sightlines on all levels. Accessible restrooms are also available throughout the stadium. See the official website for further details: attstadium.com/stadium-info/accessibility
