World Cup 2026 Teams National Anthems
Unlike in Europe the American national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, is played before all major sporting events including MLS soccer matches.
At the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada both teams' national anthems will be played before each game creating the necessary national fervor along with the display of the national flags.

Notes
Originally a poem written in the 1870s, "God Defend New Zealand" was put to music in 1876. It has two versions, one in Maori and the other in English. The author was Thomas Bracken, an Irish-born immigrant who came to Dunedin from Victoria in Australia.
The composer of the Portuguese national anthem was Alfredo Keil (1850-1907), a musician, painter and poet.
Qatar's national anthem was written by Sheikh Mubarak bin Sayf Al Thani and composed by Abdulaziz Nassir Al Ubaydan Al Fakhru.
The national anthem of Senegal's opening line, "Pincez tous vos koras, frappez les balafons" (Everyone strum your koras, strike the balafons), reflects the country's musical heritage. The lyrics were written by the nation's first president, Léopold Sédar Senghor, with music composed by Frenchman Herbert Pepper.
The South African national anthem is a hybrid anthem adopted in 1997 that combines extracts from the 19th-century hymn "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" (God Bless Africa) and the apartheid-era anthem "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" (The Call of South Africa). It is unique for being a "neo-modal" anthem that begins in one key and finishes in another.
The Spanish national anthem has no lyrics only music. Also the anthems of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and San Marino contain no words.
The national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina is among the rare anthems that are protected by copyright.
Since 1921 Iraq has had five national anthems in a period of less than 100 years.
