Cappielow Park in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland, is the home ground of Greenock Morton FC. The club presently compete in the Scottish Championship, the second tier of football in Scotland.
The club have played at the ground since 1879. For sponsorship reasons the stadium has been known as 'Cappielow Park, supported by Dalrada Technology UK' since 2022.
The ground was also used by Clydebank between 1999 to 2002 and back in the day once hosted a Scotland v Wales match in the 1902 British Home Championship.
The record attendance at Cappielow was 23,500 for a game against Celtic back in 1922.
Capacity
The small stadium has a capacity for 11,589 spectators with 5,741 seats.
There are two stands and two ends. These are the Grandstand, the Cowshed, the Wee Dublin End and the Sinclair Street Terrace.
The playing surface is natural grass with old school pylon floodlighting as well as lights attached to the roof of the Grandstand.
Club History
Greenock Morton FC, founded in 1874 and based in Greenock, Scotland, is one of the country's oldest football clubs. Historically a mainstay of Scottish football, Morton has spent much of its existence fluctuating between the top tiers, with its golden era coming in the 1920s and 1940s.
The club's most notable achievement is winning the Scottish Cup in 1922, at Hampden Park defeating Rangers 1-0 in a memorable final.
Morton has also won multiple lower league titles, including the Scottish First Division (now the Championship) and Second Division, cementing its status as a resilient and competitive club. Among its most famous players is Allan McGraw (117 goals in 136 games between 1961 and 1966), who also went on to manage the club and is remembered as a legendary goalscorer and figurehead in Morton's history.
Other notable figures include Andy Ritchie, aka 'the King of Cappielow Park' with 100 goals in 2013 appearances, Ritchie was a gifted forward known for both his flair and laziness in the 1980s. One Scottish journalist said of 'The Idle Idol' - he was "a fat, lazy bastard, but with great ball skill."
Dougie Imrie both played for and is the current manager of the team.
The team are nicknamed "The Ton" and play in blue and white horizontal stripes and white shorts.
Access - Getting There
The ground is a 5-minute walk from Cartsdyke railway station on the Inverclyde Line. The Inverclyde Line connects Glasgow Central Station in Glasgow via Paisley to Gourock. The journey from Glasgow Central to Greenock is about 40 minutes. Note that not all trains stop at Cartsdyke so check at Glasgow Central. Buses from Glasgow also stop just outside the ground.
