Haeundae Beach, Busan 해운대
Haeundae Beach, less than 30 minutes east of Busan by subway, is by far the most popular beach in Korea.
Haeundae Beach is a very busy spot in summer and home to the Busan Aquarium, the largest in the country and located right in the middle of the 2 km-long sandy beach.
As well as swimming and water sports, Haeundae is also well-known for the various cultural events and festivals held there throughout the year.
At Haeundae Beach there is a Folk Square where visitors can enjoy traditional games such as neoldduigi (see-saw jumping), Korean wrestling, tuho (arrow throwing), tug-of-war and yutnori (a traditional Korean board game).
Dongbaek Park occupies a promontory to the west of the beach and is a pleasant place to walk.
Pusan International Film Festival
Directly behind Haeundae beachfront, the Pusan (as Busan was once known) International Film Festival is held during the first part of October. The Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) began in 1996 and was the first film festival to ever take place in Korea.
PIFF is currently Korea's largest film festival and is known as one of the most dynamic in the world, making it the film festival in Asia. Last year it attracted over 1100 movie professionals and 400 film companies.
Another notable feature is the appeal of the festival to young people, both in terms of the large youthful audience it attracts and through its efforts to develop and promote young, cinematic talent.
PIFF usually takes place in October and during the festival Haeundae comes alive with film viewings, festival parties and of course many of the stars of Asian cinema.

Haeundae Beach Access
Haeundae Beach is a short walk from Haeundae Subway Station (Exits #3 & #5) on Busan Subway Line 2.
Buses #139, #1001, #1003 from Busan Station or #307 or #2002 from Gimhae Airport.
There are frequent flights to a number of airports in Japan as well as ferries from Busan to Fukuoka (Hakata) in Kyushu.
