The Puskás Aréna in the capital Budapest is the largest soccer stadium in Hungary and the home venue for Hungary's national football team.
The ground has a capacity of 67,215 and also stages pop concerts and other events.
Puskas Museum, Facilities & Pitch Size
The Puskas Museum at the stadium offers guided tours from Tuesday to Sunday beginning at 12.30 and 1 pm. Dedicated to the life of Hungary's most famous footballer, Ferenc Puskás, the museum is housed over four floors of a surviving 'tower' of the old Nepstadion. The museum presents Puskás' life growing up in Hungary, his move to Real Madrid and subsequent world fame followed by his return to Budapest after the collapse of the Communist regime in 1989.
The pitch size is 105 x 70 meters, featuring a natural grass surface and floodlights in the roofs of the stands.
History
The Puskás Aréna in Budapest was designed as a modern, UEFA-compliant national stadium while preserving various elements of the historic Nepstadion (Ferenc Puskás Stadium) that previously occupied the site. For example, the main entrance gate is a virtually copy of the design of the gate at the old Nepstadion.
Opened in 2019 after two years of construction work, the stadium features a steel-and-concrete exterior inspired by the original venue, combined with contemporary amenities, excellent sightlines, and a seating capacity of more than 67,000 spectators.
The project was developed by Hungarian architects led by György Skardelli and was constructed at an estimated cost of approximately 190 billion Hungarian forints (around €600 million), making it one of the largest and most expensive sports infrastructure investments in Hungary's history.
Nepstadion
The Nepstadion ("People's Stadium") dated from 1953 and opened with a capacity of around 100,000 much reduced to around 38,000 at the time of its demolition.
Matches
The arena opened with a friendly international between Hungary and Uruguay in 2019 and was also chosen as a venue stadium for Euro 2020. At Euro 2020 the arena staged three Group F games and one round of 16 match.
The stadium also hosted the 2023 Europa League Final between Roma and Sevilla and the 2026 Champions League Final between PSG and Arsenal.
The 2020 UEFA Super Cup between Sevilla and Bayern was also contested at the Puskás Aréna, having been moved from Porto in Portugal due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Budapest-based Ferencváros have also used the ground when competing in the Champions League.
The Hungarian Cup Final (Magyar Kupa) takes place at the ground annually in either May or June. Since the 2019-2020 edition both Ferencváros and Paksi have reached the final on 3 occasions.
Other Uses
As well as football matches, the venue stages frequent music concerts. Artists who have performed here include Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Ed Sheeran, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Pitbull and Rammstein.
Access - Getting To Puskás Aréna
The Puskás Aréna is situated in the east of Budapest in the 14th District about 4 km from the historic center of the city on the River Danube.
Metro: Puskás Ferenc Stadion is the nearest metro station on Line 2.
Trolleybus: Take trolleybus 1 to the Egressy út / Hungária körút stop.
Train: The arena is less than 20 minutes on foot from Keleti Station the main international and inter-city railway station in Budapest.
Parking: There is limited parking around the stadium to encourage fans to use public transport.
Walking: It is about 1 hour on foot from St. Stephen's Basilica.
Accessibility
Only the first level of the Puskás Arena offers full accessibility for wheelchair users. This level is accessible by lift. The second and third levels are not fully accessible and can only be reached by stairs. Accessible toilets are available on the first level. Concession stands on level 1 (near the wheelchair‑accessible seating area) also feature low‑level service counters.
