Seoul World Cup Stadium (서울월드컵경기장) in Seoul, South Korea is the home stadium of FC Seoul in the K-League. The 66,704 capacity soccer-specific stadium was built for the 2002 World Cup. It is the largest soccer-specific stadium in South Korea and the main venue for the South Korean national team nicknamed the 'Taegeuk Warriors'.

History

The stadium is part of the massive Millennium redevelopment project on the Han River west of the city center. The monumental stadium incorporates a cutting-edge eco-friendly design, which utilizes gas drawn from the old Nanji-do landfill site on which it has been constructed for power and lighting the stadium at night.

The pitch is just 3 meters from the nearest seats, there are 2 giant state-of-the-art video screens and the spectacular roof and support masts are symbolic of a Korean kite and a Han river boat.

The stadium first opened in November 2001 at a cost of 185 million USD. Open from 10 am to 3 pm daily on non-match days, the stadium tour includes a museum dedicated to the 2002 World Cup as well as a visit to the locker rooms and press room.

The stadium staged three matches during the tournament including the opening match France v Senegal, Turkey v China in Group C and a semifinal, Germany v South Korea.

The Club: FC Seoul

The team in red and black have won the K-League title on six occasions (1985, 1990, 2000, 2010, 2012, 2016) and have also been runners up five times. In addition, the club have been runners up in the AFC Champions League twice.

Previous managers of the club have included Senol Gunes and Nelo Vingada. Some well-known players to have represent FC Seoul include Dejan Damjanovic (over 140 goals for the club in two spells), Kiki Musampa and Park Chu-young.

Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard joined FC Seoul in 2024 and was the club captain before leaving by mutual agreement in late 2025.

As well as soccer matches, the stadium has been used for a variety of K-Pop music concerts and other events.

Access - Getting To Seoul Stadium

To reach the huge, hi-tech 66,704 capacity Seoul stadium take Subway Line 6 to the World Cup Stadium station (exit 1).

From Seoul Station take a Line 4 subway train to Gongdeok Station and change to Line 6.
