Yappy Park (so-named for sponsorship reasons) is a football stadium in Panama City. It is part of a larger complex that has a restaurant/bar, several 7-a-side football pitches, padel courts, a basketball and volleyball gym and a swimming pool.

Capacity & History

The stadium opened in 2023 and has a capacity of around 2,000. Banco General, which uses "Yappy" as the brand for its digital payments platform, are the present sponsors of the stadium.

It is the home of Panama City FC who compete in the second tier of Panamanian football, Liga Prom. The inaugural match in March 2024 was between Panama City FC and Ciex Sport Academy.

The playing surface is artificial turf with floodlights and can be booked along with the smaller 7-a-side pitches. There is one covered stand.

Tauro FC and Plaza Amador contest the country's El Clasico. Nicknamed 'Los Toros de Pedregal' (The Bulls of Pedregal), Tauro FC are the country's most successful team and play in black and white stripes modeled on Italy's Juventus. They were founded in 1984 as a works' team at a leather tannery by an immigrant from Italy, hence the Juve connection.

The club's home stadium is listed as the Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez Stadium, the national stadium.

Plaza Amador is the oldest club in the country, founded in 1955. Nicknamed 'Los Leones' (The Lions) they play at the 6,000 capacity Estadio Maracaná, named after the stadium in Brazil. The Lions play in the colors of the national flag - red, white and blue.

Football in Panama

The top professional league in Panama is the Liga Panameña de Fútbol (LPF), which features the nation's strongest 12 clubs and serves as the primary stage for domestic talent. It is divided into two conferences - East and West competing in two tournaments - the Apertura and Clausura.

The semi-professional second tier, the Liga Prom, consists of 24 teams.

On the international stage, the Panama national football team has grown significantly in recent decades, highlighted by its historic first ever qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, followed by qualification for World Cup 2026.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Panama failed to progress from Group G which also included England, Belgium and Tunisia. The squad for that tournament included seven players in the MLS and only two in western Europe. The Los Canaleros ("The Canal Men") lost 3-0 to Belgium in Sochi, 6-1 to England in Nizhny Novgorod and 2-1 to Tunisia in Saransk. At World Cup 2026, the national team are in Group L where they will again face England, along with Croatia and Ghana.

Access

The complex is located in Paseo del Norte, in the Brisas del Golf neighborhood, Ernesto Córdoba Campos district of Panama City. It is some distance north of the center of Panama City about 30 minutes by car or taxi and something of a trek by public transport.
