Dignity Health Sports Park, LA
Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California opened in 2003 and is home to LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer.
It was original known as the Home Depot Center from 2003 to 2013 and then the StubHub Center from 2013 to 2018.
Capacity, History & Design
The soccer-specific stadium first opened in 2003 at a cost of $150 million and has a capacity of 27,000 thus making it one of the largest soccer-specific stadiums in the the United States and MLS.
The ground was also the home of the now folded Chivas USA MLS team from 2005 to 2014.
The venue incorporates several ecological features that support environmental sustainability. These include energy-efficient LED stadium lighting, a large battery energy storage system, recycled water for irrigating the playing fields, low-flow water fixtures, comprehensive recycling and waste-diversion programs, and community initiatives such as on-site gardens, beehives, and greenhouse projects. The stadium also encourages sustainable transportation through bicycle facilities and shuttle services.
Uses
As well as soccer, the Dignity Health Sports Park complex as a whole has played host to other sports, including rugby, tennis, and American football. From 2017 to 2019 it was also a temporary home for the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers and received a $10 million renovation at the time.
The stadium was a venue for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup staging six matches including the final. Additionally, Dignity Health Sports Park staged games at the 2011, 2015 and 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments and several MLS Cup finals (2003, 2004, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2024).
LA Galaxy
LA Galaxy is one of the founding clubs of Major League Soccer (MLS), having begun play in 1996 when the league was first established. Named after Hollywood's "stars," the club quickly became one of the most successful and recognizable teams in American soccer.
Over the years, the Galaxy have won a record six MLS Cup championships, along with several Supporters' Shields and other domestic honors, helping to shape the growth of soccer in the United States.
The club has been home to many legendary players, including Landon Donovan, the team's all-time leading scorer and one of the greatest American soccer players, David Beckham, whose arrival in 2007 greatly increased the global popularity of MLS, Cobi Jones, the club's all-time appearance leader, and international stars such as Robbie Keane and Zlatan Ibrahimović.
Alexi Lalas played an important role in the history of LA Galaxy as both a player and an executive. A founding member of Major League Soccer, he joined the Galaxy in 1996 and became known for his strong defending, leadership, and distinctive long hair and beard. After retiring from playing, Lalas returned to the club as President and General Manager, where he helped oversee major signings, including the arrival of David Beckham in 2007.
Some influential coaches at the club include Bruce Arena who is widely regarded as the club's greatest coach. Arena led the Galaxy from 2008 to 2016, winning three MLS Cups (2011, 2012, 2014), two Supporters' Shields, and establishing one of the league's greatest dynasties. He also coached the U.S. men's national team at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
Sigi Schmid guided LA Galaxy to the 2002 MLS Cup, the 2000 CONCACAF Champions' Cup, and the 2001 U.S. Open Cup. MLS renamed its annual Coach of the Year award in his honor.
Greg Vanney is a former Galaxy player who returned as head coach in 2021. Vanney previously won an MLS Cup and a domestic treble with Toronto FC before leading the Galaxy to another MLS Cup title in 2024.
Dutch legend Ruud Gullit managed the Galaxy in 2008.
Access
The stadium is located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.
For public transit, visitors can take the LA Metro J Line (Silver Line) express bus to the Harbor Gateway Transit Center. From there, transfer to the Galaxy Express, which offers free, non-stop round-trip shuttles directly to the stadium for every LA Galaxy home match.
Alternatively, ride the Metro A Line (Blue Line) to the Del Amo Station, where you can also transfer to the free Galaxy Express shuttle. These shuttles begin service 90 minutes before kickoff and run approximately every 10 minutes. You can plan your specific trip from your exact starting point using the LA Metro transit planner.
